I say: This means Back announcement is the gap between the songs that tell you a bit about the song just played eg "That was a song by Rihanna, ... " This improves the radio show because it tells the listeners what the song is called and who its by. This will help if its a new song that's recently been released.

Codes of Practice / Regulation (Discuss here the implications of the MCPS-PRS, Copyright, Ethics, OFCOM, Legal Considerations. The names of the two companies that licences radio stations to play music and pays royalties to the artists are PPL and PRS. These stand for Phonographic Performance Limited and Preforming Rights Society. If the club/ shop/ radio station doesn't have one of these then it would be fined heavily. The name of the regulator of the Broadcasting and Telecommunications Industries is Ofcom. The Broadcasting code sets out the principles, meanings and "practices to be followed" by the Broadcast industries is called The Ofcom Broadcasting Code. The sections of the code are; Religion, Harm and Offence, Protecting the under 18's and Privacy. The code that the UK Journalists should follow is called the National Union of Journalists. The code aims to treat everyone fairly and make sure Journalists don't publish something that may harm another person. The code is rules such as differentiate between fact and opinion, avoid plagiarism,  protect the identity of your sources etc. If one or more of these twelve rules are broken, it can lead to a huge disaster such as the phone hacking scandal. The rules protects everyone and delivers the information that is correct and backed up. The BBC's Ethics and Values are: Public Interests- tell the public what they need to know. Truth and Accuracy- all articles have 2 or more reliable sources. Impartiality-  Fairness- everyone is treated fairly/ in a non-biased way. In my radio I had to make sure I didn't treat anyone unfairly or say anything that may offend anyone as this would be breaking the code. I had to make sure I clearly stated what was my opinion and what was facts as this would break the code as well. When analyzing my work, I had to make sure I checked my work with the code and the four bullet points above. This made sure my radio show wouldn't offend anyone or falsely accuse anyone.

Adult Radio Show

     My Radio show goes on for 24 minutes and is aimed at adults for Central Sussex College. All the songs are Classic hit songs and that is the target audience i'm aiming for. There are 8 songs within my radio show all chosen from classic hit songs and put in a carefully thought out order.
      I started with a bright song and ended with a bold song as this is one of the techniques that make a successful radio show. For example I started with "Boys are Back in Town by Thin Lizzy" and ended with "Return to Sender by Elvis Presley". I chose to start with Boys are Back in Town because its a happy        up-beat song to get the show started. I ended with Return to Sender because the song is well known by many people from the target audience.
       I used 1 cross over within my radio show because the songs were quiet at the beginning and end so by joining up the songs you loose a long gap and the lyrics aren't interlinked so it sounds good. An example is "Jumping Jack Flash By The Rolling Stones" ending as "Return to Sender by Elvis Presley" starts. I also turned the volume down at the end/ beginning of all the songs so it builds up. I did this because it would introduce the songs as separate yet the two songs flow nicely.
       On a few songs I cut the ending or beginning off to get rid of a long pause between finishing and starting a song. An example of this is the beginning of "The Tears of a Clown by Smokey Robinson & the Miracles"  because at the beginning, there is a long build up to the song so I cut off the beginning and gradually made the sound gradually increase.
      To conclude, I think I did really well and used all the techniques I was taught. I'm proud of my radio show because I learnt a lot from the student one and used the tips i picked up from that. I achieved my goal to make a radio show aimed at adults which was hard as I don't listen to that type of music. This radio show wouldn't apply to students because the music isn't aimed at their generation and the techniques I have used wouldn't be used often enough. For example I would have used more cross overs, I may have only used 3 every half hour instead of 1. I would always start with a bright song and end with a strong song whether it was for adults or teenagers because that technique is for all radio stations and it works.

Student Radio Show
